Independent advice?ColdStoreDesign.com

If a warehouse is not fulfil-ling its potential
or when there are plans for expan-sion, construction
or recon-struction, warehouse opera-tors often turn to their sup-pliers for
advice instead of an independent consultant,
because they think it is less expensive.
However, sup-pliers always have their own agenda.
Their advice is not free and they want to sell
their product. Therefore they are not likely to
recom-mend a competitor´s solu-tion, even it that
would suit the operation better. With the
assistance of the ex-perts of
ColdStoreDesign,
operators can make sure that their facility runs
as efficiently as possible and is ready for the
future.

CHINA UNABLE
TO MEET FOOD SAFETY EXPECTATIONS
China´s
food safety process will be insufficient in
meeting the expected US$650 billion in food
spending by China´s middle class in 2017,
ac-cording to a survey by A.T. Kearney. The
Chi-nese middle-class is forecast to grow to
518 million in a decade and these people
rank food safety as very important. However,
food re-tailers are not yet able to live up
to the food safety expectations, because of
bad infrastructure, shortage of cold stores
and refrigerated trucks, and no clear supply
chain standards.

INSULATING
COLD ROOM CURTAIN SAID TO SAVE ENERGY
Cold
store operators always look for ways to
reduce energy consumption and suppliers
regularly come up with new products that can
make operations more energy ef-ficient. One
such products is a new type of cold room
cur-tain, made from insulating material
instead of plastic. Ac-cording to research,
the energy savings with these curtains range
from 18-25% in chillers and from 30-35% in
freezers. This material also prevents
condensation dripping on the floor and thus
icy surfaces. More information about this

RETAIL SECTOR DRIVES INDIAN COLD STORAGE
INDUSTRY
India´s
post-harvest machinery and cold stora-ge
industry has seen a 35% annual growth in the
last two years due to the emergence of or-ganized
retail chains, increasing number of food
processing companies and increasing export.
Industry sources say that the country needs
over 33 million tons of extra cold storage
capacity in the next four years. There is a
particular need for facilities that can
handle a variety of perishable
